Kevin's Story...
A well known Twin Cities advocate for the disabled, Kevin Sullivan died suddenly on Tuesday June 14 at age 52. Kevin became quadriplegic in March 1984 due to a diving accident in the ocean while in Florida.He was schooled at the Univ, of North Dakota as a pilot.While residing at Courage Center , Kevin was the first recipient of the Charles Lindbergh Award in memory of his grandson Jonathan Lindbergh Brown and was given $10,850, the cost of the Lindbergh plane," The Spirit of St. Louis.” Later he was able to proficiently fly again with special equipment. He formerly managed an airport FBO in La Crosse, Wis. and Flying Cloud airport.
In 1991 Kevin founded In Home Personal Care which provides home health services for people with disabilities. He was an especially strong advocate for a living wage for Personal Care Attendants and a great example of courage for many people. “Nothing stopped him!” said his sister Erin Govrik.”He would get so enthusiastic and optimistic about everything, including the Twins ballgames and boating on Lake Minnetonka.”
He is survived by his parents, Laura and Denny Sullivan; wife Kathy, and her son and daughter,Justin and Jenna Barrett; twin brothers, Murray and Brent Sullivan of Scottsdale, Arizona and sister Erin Govrik of St. Paul
